How to check compatibility with your tap
Before buying a tap connector, measure the outside diameter of the tap thread. A 1-inch connector fits threads with an outside diameter of approximately 33 mm (1-inch internal thread). For taps of other diameters, use reducers or adaptor fittings.
Construction materials and their properties
The YATO YT-89021 tap connector is made from two complementary materials, each performing a specific function in the construction:
ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene)
An engineering thermoplastic forming the connector body. It offers high rigidity, impact resistance and dimensional stability. It does not deform under the mechanical stress generated during tightening. Resistant to water, detergents and the typical chemicals used in gardening.
TPR (Thermoplastic Elastomer)
A rubber-like material used in the sealing components. TPR combines flexibility with resistance to ageing and weathering. It ensures a leak-tight connection by conforming to the uneven surface of the tap thread. Unlike traditional rubber, it does not harden in frost or crumble after prolonged use.
Maintenance and use
Preparing for the winter season
Before the frost, unscrew the connector from the tap, drain it of water and store it indoors. Although the materials are frost-resistant, freezing water in the connection can crack the tap thread or the connector itself.
To ensure a leak-tight connection over the long term, clean the connector thread periodically to remove limescale and dirt. Simply rinse the part under running water and wipe it with a cloth. Do not use abrasive products, which can damage the surface of the TPR seals.
When fitting, tighten the connector by hand without using spanners. Excessive tightening force does not improve the seal and can damage the tap thread or deform the sealing components. If leaks occur after hand-tightening, check the condition of the tap thread and the cleanliness of the sealing surfaces.
