13-B16 Keyed Drill Chuck GEKO G00503

Technical features

1.5-13 mm chucking range

The universal diameter range handles most common drill bits used in assembly, installation and workshop tasks. It covers both precision small-diameter bits and standard bits for metal, wood and plastics.

B16 taper mount

The B16 Morse taper (equivalent to 5/8" x 16 UN) is a standardised fitting used on higher-power drills. It provides a stable, play-free axial connection that transmits high torque. Before buying, check the spindle type on your drill.

Keyed chuck

A three-jaw chuck tightened with a chuck key ensures precise bit centring and strong clamping force. Compared with keyless chucks, it offers greater holding force, which matters when drilling hard materials or using large-diameter bits.

Universal application

The chuck can be fitted to hand drills from various manufacturers, provided the mount type matches. It is suitable for both small precision drills and higher-power machines used in workshops or on site.

Applications

  • Replacing a worn or damaged drill chuck on your existing drill
  • Upgrading a drill by fitting a chuck with a wider capacity
  • Drilling in wood, non-ferrous metals and structural steel
  • Drilling fixing holes for electrical and plumbing installations
  • Workshop applications requiring secure bit holding
  • Work with step drills, milling cutters and other shanked tools

Compatibility and fitting

Checking compatibility

Before buying, check that the drill spindle has a B16 taper socket. This information is given in the tool's technical documentation or on the rating plate. If no documentation is available, you can measure the diameter and angle of the taper on the existing chuck, or consult the drill manufacturer's service centre.

Fitting the chuck

Fit the chuck by sliding the taper into the spindle socket and tapping it lightly into place (for example, with a gentle tap on the chuck body). The taper connection is held by friction alone - it needs no additional screws or wedges. To remove it, use a dedicated chuck removal wedge or tap lightly from underneath the spindle.

Use and maintenance

When using a keyed chuck, a few rules apply. Tighten the bit evenly across all three jaws - uneven clamping causes run-out and faster chuck wear. Always remove the chuck key immediately after tightening the bit - leaving it in the chuck when the drill starts can cause an accident.

The chuck jaws need periodic cleaning to remove swarf and dust. Every few months, apply a thin layer of grease to the thread of the tightening mechanism. Keep the mounting taper clean - contamination can cause play and run-out.

The chuck is not suitable for use with hammer drills in hammer mode - vibration can damage the jaw mechanism. When working intensively with large bits, check the condition of the jaws - excessive wear shows up as difficulty tightening and as the bit slipping during use.
