Hex socket with a 1/4 inch (6.35 mm) drive and a 12 mm hex size. A tool designed for fitting and removing hex bolts and nuts when used with a ratchet, torque wrench or a power driver with an adaptor.
Technical features
1/4" drive
The 6.35 × 6.35 mm (1/4") square drive is the standard fitting for hand tools used in light and medium-duty work. It is compatible with most ratchets, torque wrenches and extension bars on the market.
12 mm size
The socket fits hex bolts and nuts with a 12 mm across-flats size. A frequently used size in automotive work (wheel bolts, underbody components), mechanical repairs and furniture assembly.
Hex profile
The hexagonal shape inside the socket spreads the load evenly across the six flats of the fastener, reducing the risk of rounding the corners compared with open-ended spanners.
Material

Checking compatibility
Before buying, make sure your drive tool has a 1/4" drive. To check the size of a bolt or nut, measure across the opposite flats of the hex — it should be 12 mm. On bolts with a cylindrical head, measure the hex section beneath the head.
Use and maintenance
Before first use, check that the socket seats correctly on the drive square — it should sit securely with no play. During use, make sure the socket is pushed fully onto the bolt or nut to avoid damaging the corners of the fastener.
After use, clean any dirt from the socket with a brush or cloth. If it comes into contact with moisture or chemicals, dry the tool and apply a thin film of protective oil. Store it in a dry place, ideally in a dedicated socket set case or tool organiser.
Do not use the socket as a lever extension (never slip a pipe over the handle) — this may crack or permanently deform the tool. Do not use the socket for impact-loosening rusted fasteners without first applying a penetrating fluid.
