A box spanner is a workshop tool that combines the function of a socket spanner with a tubular design, allowing the use of a tommy bar. The 16mm model is designed for work with nuts and bolts with a 16 mm across-flats width.
A through hole in the handle allows the use of a tommy bar, which makes it possible to increase torque considerably. This is particularly useful when undoing seized or overtightened bolted joints.
An across-flats width of 16 mm corresponds to standard M10 nuts and to many joints used in automotive and mechanical applications. Check that the size is suitable before purchase – the nut should fit freely, without play.
Carbon steel provides suitable hardness and mechanical strength, essential when transmitting high torque. The material is resistant to deformation when used correctly and for its intended purpose.
VOREL is a manufacturer of workshop tools and equipment for professionals and hobby users. The brand offers a wide range of hand tools in the mid-price segment.

A 16 mm size means the width between the flat faces of the nut. It is most commonly used with M10 nuts. Before purchase, measure the nut with an adjustable spanner or check the marking on the mating component. The spanner should not have any play or need to be forced on.
The box spanner is used wherever greater torque is required than with a standard open-ended spanner. The through hole allows a bar or tube to be inserted, which extends the lever arm.
When working, match the diameter of the tommy bar to the hole – too loose a fit can damage the tool. Tommy bars with a diameter suited to the manufacturer's hole dimensions are recommended.
After use in damp conditions or contact with corrosive substances, clean the tool and protect it against rust. Carbon steel requires periodic maintenance – removal of contamination and application of a thin layer of protective oil.
Do not extend the spanner's lever arm with excessively long tubes – this can exceed the strength of the tool and damage it. When working with high torque, protective gloves and a stable body position are recommended.
