The 18 mm snap-off knife is a versatile tool for the precise cutting of flat materials. The segmented blade system lets you renew the cutting edge quickly by snapping off a worn segment, so there is no need to replace the whole blade.
A width of 18 mm is the standard for knives used on medium-duty work. The blade is made up of 8 segments that can be snapped off with a special tool or with the snapper built into the end cap. Once a segment is worn, snapping it off exposes a sharp cutting edge without the need to replace the whole blade.
A sliding lock or locking wheel prevents the blade from retracting accidentally during use. The mechanism lets you adjust how far the blade extends to suit the thickness of the material and holds the blade firmly in position while cutting.
The body is shaped around the anatomy of the hand for a stable grip during precision cutting. The handle material reduces slipping, which gives better control over the tool during longer jobs and reduces hand fatigue.
The body is made from impact-resistant materials that protect the internal mechanism from damage. The blade guide keeps the blade steady and minimises side play, which translates into cutting precision and safe use.

Before snapping off a segment, retract the blade fully into the body. The segment is snapped off in a special slot in the end cap of the knife or with pliers, keeping the knife away from your body. After snapping off, check that the new segment is correctly locked in the guide.
The blade extension is set to suit the thickness of the material. For cutting cardboard, an extension of 3–5 mm is enough, which minimises the risk of breaking the blade. A longer extension should only be used on thicker materials, with the blade secured by the lock.
When cutting, guide the knife away from your body and steady the material on a cutting mat. When you have finished, retract the blade fully into the body. Store the knife out of the reach of children. Dispose of worn blade segments in a sharps container.
