A 180 mm sanding disc with P60 grit, designed for sanding filler, plaster and other building materials. The hook-and-loop attachment system allows quick changes and a secure hold on the sander.
A P60 grit grade corresponds to a particle size of around 269 micrometres. It belongs to the coarse sanding disc group and is used for initial sanding, removing unevenness and thicker layers of material. It removes material quickly while leaving visible sanding marks that require further work with a finer grit.
Aluminium oxide has a hardness of 9 on the Mohs scale and good wear resistance. It sands building materials, wood and some metals effectively. The aluminium oxide grains fracture during use, exposing fresh sharp edges, which extends the working life of the disc.
The hook-and-loop (Velcro) attachment allows discs to be changed quickly without tools. The back of the disc is covered in loops that engage with the hooks on the sander's backing pad. It provides a secure hold during use and lets the same disc be fitted repeatedly. Before buying, check that your sander has a 180 mm hook-and-loop backing pad.
The disc has 8 holes for dust extraction when working with a sander that has a dust collection system. The hole pattern must match the pattern on the sander's backing pad. Effective dust extraction stops the abrasive grains from clogging and extends the life of the disc, and also improves visibility of the work surface.

P60 grit is used at the initial sanding stage. After using it, move on to P80-P120 for a smoother surface, and then P150-P240 before painting or finishing. Each successive stage removes the marks left by the previous grit.
180 mm hook-and-loop sanding discs are compatible with random orbital and orbital sanders fitted with a backing pad of the same diameter and a hook-and-loop attachment system. Before buying, check the diameter of the sander's backing pad and the layout of the dust extraction holes. A mismatched hole pattern will prevent effective dust extraction, but will not affect whether the disc can be fitted.
The flexible neoprene foam backing provides even pressure on uneven surfaces, which matters when sanding plaster or filler with slight bumps. The backing material absorbs vibration and conforms to the shape of the surface being worked.
Store sanding discs in a dry place, away from moisture, which can weaken the adhesive and the backing. When you have finished, clean dust off the disc with compressed air to extend its working life. Worn discs lose their grain sharpness – carrying on with them requires more pressure and reduces the quality of the sanding.
