A 24-litre horizontal diaphragm pressure vessel designed for water supply systems fed from a private source. Made from carbon steel with a powder coating and fitted with a rubber diaphragm that keeps the water from coming into contact with the metal.
A rubber diaphragm divides the inside of the vessel into two chambers: water and air. Air compressed in the air chamber maintains a constant pressure in the system, doing away with the need to top up the air by hand, as is the case with vessels that have no diaphragm.
The carbon steel is powder-coated on the outside, giving durable protection against the weather. The rubber diaphragm inside prevents the water from coming into direct contact with the metal, reducing the risk of internal corrosion and extending the service life of the vessel.
Laid out horizontally, the vessel takes up less vertical space, which makes installation easier in rooms with limited headroom such as cellars or plant rooms. It can be mounted on a support leg or directly on the floor.
A 1" (DN25) thread is standard on domestic pressure systems. It allows direct connection to most submersible and booster pumps without the need for reducers.

A diaphragm pressure vessel acts as a pressure buffer in a water system. A rubber diaphragm divides its interior into two separate chambers. The air chamber is filled with compressed air (usually to a pressure of 1.5-2 bar), while the water chamber is connected to the system.
While the pump is running, water flows into the water chamber, compressing the air on the other side of the diaphragm. When the pressure reaches the maximum value (set on the pressure switch), the pump switches off. The compressed air maintains the pressure in the system, allowing water to be drawn off without starting the pump. The pump only starts again once the pressure falls to the minimum value.
A total capacity of 24 litres does not mean that this much water can be drawn off between pump cycles. The usable capacity depends on the pressure settings (the difference between the pump cut-in and cut-out pressures) and is usually 30-40% of the total capacity. For a 24L vessel this is around 7-10 litres of water between pump cycles.
Before installation, check the pre-charge air pressure in the vessel (measured with the water chamber empty). It should be around 0.2 bar below the pump cut-in pressure set on the pressure switch. The vessel is installed between the pump and the water system, in a location protected from frost.
The 1" connection is fitted using threaded unions with a seal. A horizontally oriented vessel needs stable support along its whole length or mounting on a dedicated leg. Access must be provided to the air valve (car-type valve) located on the air chamber side.
Maintenance is limited to checking the pre-charge air pressure periodically (every 6-12 months) and topping it up through the valve if necessary. Loss of pressure shows up as the pump starting more often and water pulsing at the taps. If the diaphragm is damaged (water in the air chamber), the diaphragm or the whole vessel must be replaced.
A 24L vessel works well in small domestic systems with pumps delivering up to 3-4 m³/h. For larger systems, or where water is drawn off frequently and intensively (for example several taps used at once), vessels with a larger capacity (50L, 80L, 100L) are recommended, which will reduce how often the pump cuts in and extend its service life.
