Hand-operated tin snips, 300 mm long, for cutting steel sheet and intended for sheet metal, metalworking and construction work. The forged S55 steel construction with induction-hardened blades ensures durability and precision when cutting material up to 1.4 mm thick.
Forging the steel increases the mechanical strength of the tool by densifying the material structure. S55 steel contains around 0.55% carbon, which provides a balance between hardness and resistance to cracking. The forging process eliminates casting defects and improves the mechanical properties compared with snips made from sheet steel.
Induction hardening involves heating the surface layer by electromagnetic induction and then quenching it rapidly. A hardness of 55-60 HRC (Rockwell scale) means a very hard cutting edge surface that stays sharp through repeated cutting of steel. The core remains ductile, which prevents the tool from becoming brittle and breaking.
Elastomer or thermoplastic rubber grips reduce pressure on the hand during cutting and prevent slipping. The soft material absorbs the vibration generated when cutting sheet metal, which reduces muscle fatigue during work that involves many cuts. This is particularly important during prolonged use of the snips.
A spring that automatically opens the handles after every cut speeds up work and reduces effort. Being able to remove it lets you adapt the snips to your individual preferences or the type of work. For precision work the spring can be removed for better control; for repetitive cutting the spring increases efficiency.

| Spring | Detachable, jaw-opening |
This parameter defines the maximum thickness of steel sheet that can be cut without excessive effort and without risk of damaging the tool. It applies to cold-rolled and stainless steel of standard strength. Attempting to cut thicker material may blunt the blade, distort the jaws or damage the mechanism. With softer materials (aluminium, copper), slightly thicker sheets can be cut.
Before first use, check the alignment of the blades – they should meet along the full length of the cutting edge without any play. When cutting, hold the snips perpendicular to the surface of the sheet, making an even movement without twisting the tool. Avoid cutting wire, screws or materials harder than the specification allows.
After finishing work, clean the blades of swarf and dirt, then protect them with a thin layer of machine oil or anti-corrosion preparation. Regular lubrication of the pivot extends the smooth operation of the mechanism. Storing in a dry place prevents corrosion of the steel parts.
Induction-hardened blades stay sharp for a long time, but with intensive use they may need sharpening. Sharpen them wet with a diamond file or on a grinder, keeping the original blade angle (around 80-85 degrees). Too acute an angle will cause rapid blunting; too obtuse an angle will increase cutting resistance. After sharpening, remove any burrs with a fine abrasive.
