Features of the reciprocating saw blade for masonry

Tungsten carbide blade

Tungsten carbide is a material characterised by high hardness and resistance to abrasion. When cutting aerated concrete and clay hollow blocks, this translates into a significantly longer blade life than standard steel blades and consistent cutting performance throughout its service life.

2 TPI tooth pitch

The TPI (teeth per inch) figure specifies the number of teeth per inch of blade length. A value of 2 TPI means large, widely spaced teeth with generous gullets, which allows efficient clearance of swarf and dust when cutting porous materials such as aerated concrete.

455 mm working length

The length of the blade determines the maximum width of the material being cut. At 455 mm, it allows blocks from 240 mm (standard partition walls) to 365 mm (external walls) wide to be cut in a single pass, without the need to cut from both sides.

1.5 mm blade thickness

Blade thickness affects both the kerf width and the stiffness of the blade. At 1.5 mm, it strikes a balance between cutting precision and resistance to bending when working through harder sections of material, such as inclusions in aerated concrete.

Applications for the masonry reciprocating saw blade

  • Cutting aerated concrete blocks when building structural walls
  • Working clay hollow blocks when building partition walls
  • Trimming masonry units around lintels and window openings
  • Fitting blocks into corners and at wall junctions
  • Cutting chases and openings for services in aerated concrete walls
  • Cutting masonry materials during renovation and extension work
  • Preparing units for laying where room geometry is complex

Compatibility and use

Compatibility with reciprocating saws

This blade requires a reciprocating saw with a compatible blade fitting. Before purchase, check the type of blade clamp on your saw (in most cases a universal quick-release clamp). The tool must have sufficient power for masonry work – a minimum of 1000 W is recommended for electric saws.

Operating parameters

When cutting aerated concrete and clay hollow blocks, a medium stroke speed and moderate pressure are recommended. Excessive pressure can overheat the blade and reduce the quality of the cut. The material should be properly supported to prevent edges from crumbling where the blade exits.

Safety when working

Cutting masonry generates a considerable amount of mineral dust. An FFP2 or higher grade respirator, safety goggles and work gloves are essential. Adequate ventilation or dust extraction systems are also recommended. Work should be carried out in a stable position with a firm grip on the tool.
