A general-purpose axe with an 800 g head, designed for chopping and splitting wood. The design combines a hardened C45 steel head with a fibreglass composite handle, striking a balance between durability and working ergonomics.
C45 carbon steel contains approximately 0.45% carbon, which after forging and hardening gives a hardness of 48-58 HRC. The hot-forging process densifies the material structure, eliminating porosity and increasing mechanical strength. Hardness within this range ensures the blade resists chipping on contact with knots and hard wood, while still being suitable for sharpening.
Fibreglass reinforced with plastic resin is more resistant to cracking than wood and does not react to moisture or temperature changes. It requires no oiling and does not crack when it dries out. The composite construction absorbs impact shock, reducing strain on the wrists and elbows during prolonged work.
The thermoplastic elastomer (TPR) on the grip increases friction between the hand and the handle, particularly in damp conditions or with sweaty hands. The material remains flexible at low temperatures, which matters when working in winter. The coating dampens the vibrations transmitted to the hand while chopping.
An 800 g head falls into the medium category of axes. It provides enough kinetic energy to split logs up to 25-30 cm in diameter, while still allowing precise control of the swing. Its lighter weight compared with heavy axes (1200-1500 g) reduces fatigue during sessions lasting over an hour.

Sharpen the axe with a flat file or whetstone at an angle of 25-30 degrees, working from the middle of the blade towards the edge. Hardened C45 steel requires files with a hardness of at least 60 HRC. Sharpening regularly every 4-6 hours of intensive work prevents the need for the laborious restoration of a heavily blunted edge.
Store the axe in a dry room with a blade guard to protect against accidental contact and moisture. The composite handle requires no oiling; simply remove dirt with a damp cloth. After working in damp conditions, wipe the head dry to prevent surface corrosion.
In axes with a composite handle, the head is usually fixed mechanically or permanently. Before each use, check that the head has no play relative to the handle. Any loosening requires repair or replacement of the tool – working with a loose axe risks the head coming off during the swing.
