The essential working component of a random orbital sander, providing the mounting platform for abrasive discs. This 125 mm pad features a hook-and-loop attachment system, allowing abrasive discs to be changed quickly without tools.
A standard size for 200-400 W random orbital sanders. The diameter determines the working area and affects the rotational speed - a larger pad runs more slowly at the same motor power, but covers a greater area at once.
The hook-and-loop (Velcro) system allows abrasive discs to be fitted and removed in seconds without the need for tools. Changing the grit during work takes around 5 seconds, which improves efficiency when sanding in multiple stages.
The pad performs rotational and oscillating (offset) movement simultaneously, which prevents circular marks from forming on the sanded surface. The oscillation amplitude is usually 2-5 mm, depending on the sander model.
A glass-fibre reinforced plastic base provides resistance to impact and to the heat generated during intensive sanding. The hook-and-loop layer retains its grip for around 200-300 disc changes.

The pad works with 125 mm abrasive discs on a hook-and-loop backing. When buying discs, check the hole pattern - it must match the system on your sander. Discs without holes can be used, but without dust extraction. Grit range: P40-P60 for stock removal, P80-P120 for levelling, P150-P240 for smoothing, P320+ for finishing.
Before fitting each abrasive disc, check that the hook-and-loop surface is clean - accumulated dust and particles reduce grip. Clean it with a stiff-bristled brush or compressed air. Avoid applying excessive pressure during work - the weight of the sander alone is sufficient for most applications.
The pad needs replacing when the hook-and-loop layer loses its grip (the disc comes off during work) or when the base becomes cracked. Signs of wear also include pad runout during operation, which indicates deformation or a damaged bearing in the sander. Do not use a damaged pad - this can lead to uneven sanding and faster wear of the abrasive discs.
