Bootlace Ferrule Crimping Tool 0.5-16 mm² GEKO G01773

A hand tool designed for crimping bootlace ferrules onto the ends of electrical cables. It handles both insulated and uninsulated ferrules across conductor cross-sections from 0.5 to 16 mm².

Conductor cross-section0.5 - 16 mm²
Ferrule typeinsulated and uninsulated
Length220 mm
Handlesrubberised

Technical features

Versatile working range

Covering conductor cross-sections of 0.5-16 mm², it handles most typical installation work, from thin control cables to thicker power leads. Both single and twin ferrules can be crimped.

Ferrule compatibility

The tool works with insulated ferrules (colour-coded by cross-section) as well as uninsulated (metal) ferrules. This removes the need for two separate tools.

Comfort in use

Rubberised handles improve grip and reduce hand fatigue during repeated crimping. At 220 mm long, the tool provides ample leverage while remaining compact and easy to handle.

Crimping mechanism

A compound lever system reduces the force required. It produces a durable, tight crimp between cable and ferrule without excessive physical effort.

Applications

  • Electrical installation work in residential and public buildings
  • Work on distribution boards and control cabinets
  • Low-voltage and control systems (automation, alarms, door entry systems)
  • Connecting cables in photovoltaic and renewable energy installations
  • Servicing and repair of electrical equipment
  • Wiring in vehicles, trailers and mobile machinery
  • Workshop tasks and prototyping of electrical circuits

What bootlace ferrules are and why they are used

Bootlace ferrules are metal or insulated sleeves fitted over the copper strands of a cable. They stop the strands from splaying, make it easier to insert the cable into a screw terminal and increase the electrical contact area. Insulated ferrules also have a plastic collar colour-coded to the conductor cross-section (for example yellow for 4 mm², blue for 1.5 mm²). Crimping ferrules requires a dedicated tool — ordinary pliers can damage the ferrule or fail to apply sufficient pressure.

Use and maintenance

Before crimping, select a ferrule that matches the conductor cross-section — one that is too large will not form a tight joint, while one that is too small may damage the strands. Push the cable fully into the ferrule, then place it in the correct die of the crimping tool. Fully closing the jaws ensures a correct crimp.

After use, clean any insulation residue from the jaws and protect the tool from moisture. The pivot of the mechanism can be lubricated periodically with general-purpose grease. Do not use the crimping tool to cut cables or to crimp anything other than bootlace ferrules.
