A box spanner is a tool that combines the functions of a ring spanner and a socket, allowing work in areas with limited access. Model 54650 is made of carbon steel and features a tommy bar hole, which increases torque when tightening.
A box spanner combines the characteristics of a ring spanner and a deep socket. This construction allows work on nuts and bolts that protrude above the surface, where a standard open-ended spanner does not have enough range of movement. The design provides full contact with the nut over its entire height.
A through hole in the handle section allows an additional rod or tommy bar to be used. This solution increases leverage and torque, which is essential when loosening rusted or overtightened joints without the risk of damaging the tool.
The material used is carbon steel with a higher carbon content, which provides suitable hardness and resistance to deformation. Carbon steel offers a good strength-to-price ratio and performs well in workshop conditions under regular use.
An 11 mm spanner is a standard size used in hydraulic and pneumatic installations and when fitting equipment components. 11 mm nuts are found on brake and fuel pipe unions and on the mounting hardware of domestic appliances and power tools.

Before starting work, check that the 11 mm size matches the nut or bolt. The spanner should fit snugly against all edges of the fastener. Any play can round off the corners and prevent further work. If in doubt, use a vernier calliper to measure the diameter of the nut.
For stubborn joints, the tommy bar hole can be used by inserting a steel rod or a dedicated tommy bar through it. Remember to increase force gradually and to control the direction of movement. Excessive force can damage the thread or break the spanner, particularly when working with parts made of soft materials.
After use, clean the spanner of dirt and dry it. Carbon steel requires protection against corrosion – periodic oiling of the tool with machine oil or a rust preventative is recommended. Storing it in a dry place extends the life of the spanner and prevents it sticking to the work surface.
