Electronic tester for measuring the moisture content of brake fluid, compatible with DOT3, DOT4 and DOT5.1 fluids. The device features an LCD display, a flexible 21 cm probe and a data hold function for freezing the reading.
The liquid crystal screen allows readings to be taken under varying lighting conditions. The LED backlight improves legibility in poorly lit workshop areas or inside the vehicle cabin.
The extended probe provides access to the brake fluid reservoir without having to remove covers. The flexible design makes measurement easier in the tight engine bay spaces typical of modern vehicles.
IP67 sealing means complete protection against dust and resistance to immersion in water up to 1 metre deep for 30 minutes. This rating matters in workshop conditions, where devices are exposed to contact with operating fluids.
The audible and visual signalling system indicates when the permissible moisture level in the fluid has been exceeded. This allows a quick assessment of condition without detailed analysis of the numerical values shown on the display.

Brake fluids DOT3, DOT4 and DOT5.1 are hygroscopic, which means they absorb moisture from the air. A rise in water content lowers the fluid's boiling point, which can lead to a loss of braking effectiveness under intensive use. Manufacturers recommend changing the fluid every 2 years or when the water content exceeds 3-4%. The tester enables an objective assessment of fluid condition without the need for preventive replacement.
Before first use, charge the battery using the supplied USB Type-C cable. A full charge takes approximately 2-3 hours. During measurement the probe should be immersed in the brake fluid in the reservoir, avoiding contact with the bottom or the sides. The data hold function freezes the reading on the display once the probe is removed from the reservoir.
After measurement, clean the probe with a clean cloth or paper. Do not use solvents or chemicals that could damage the probe coating. Store the device in a dry place at a temperature between -30°C and +50°C. The operating temperature range of -20°C to +70°C allows diagnostics in workshop conditions throughout the year.
DOT3 (Department of Transportation) is a basic standard with a minimum boiling point of 205°C for dry fluid and 140°C for wet fluid. DOT4 offers higher parameters: 230°C and 155°C respectively. DOT5.1 is the standard with the highest requirements: 260°C and 180°C, used in sports vehicles and heavily loaded braking systems. The YT-72986 tester works with all three types of polyethylene glycol-based fluids.
