600 g weight – all-round use

The difference between the Berlin pattern and a standard bricklayer's hammer
A Berlin pattern hammer has a wider striking face than a standard bricklayer's hammer, which increases the contact area with the material. The other end of the head is shaped as a chisel or point. A standard bricklayer's hammer has a narrower head finished with a point for cutting bricks. The Berlin pattern performs better when chipping flat surfaces, while the standard type is better for precision cutting.
Use and maintenance
Before starting work, check the condition of the joint between the head and the handle – a loose head is a safety hazard. With a steel handle the risk of loosening is minimal compared with wooden equivalents, but checking is still recommended.
Wear safety goggles when using a bricklayer's hammer – fragments of plaster, brick or concrete can cause eye injuries. Work gloves protect your hands from vibration and abrasion. For prolonged work in enclosed spaces, dust masks are recommended.
After finishing work, clean the hammer of any remaining building material. The striking face can be cleaned with a wire brush. The steel handle with a non-slip coating should be wiped with a damp cloth – avoid solvents, which can damage the coating.
Storing the hammer in a dry place prevents corrosion of the steel parts. If rust appears on the head, it can be removed with sandpaper and the surface protected with a thin film of machine oil.
