Chainsaw chain 0.325" 18" 72 links Yato YT-849452

A chainsaw chain made from Mn65 manganese steel with a 0.325-inch pitch, designed for petrol and electric chainsaws with an 18-inch guide bar. The product is intended for cutting clean and moderately soiled wood in gardening, forestry and construction applications.

Chain pitch0.325"
Bar length18" (45 cm)
Number of links72
Gauge0.05" (1.3 mm)

Features of the 0.325" chainsaw chain

0.325-inch pitch

The pitch is the distance between any three consecutive rivets on the chain divided by two. A value of 0.325" means compatibility with a wide range of petrol and electric chainsaws rated at 1.5-3 hp. Check the pitch on the packaging of the chain currently in use or in the chainsaw manual before buying.

0.05" gauge

The 0.05-inch (1.3 mm) gauge of the drive link must match the width of the groove in the guide bar. A gauge that is too large or too small will prevent the chain from seating correctly and can lead to the chain breaking or damaging the bar. This parameter is verified by measuring the groove in the bar or checking the marking at its end.

Mn65 manganese steel

The material the chain is made from — Mn65 steel contains added manganese, which increases hardness and wear resistance. It provides a longer service life for the cutting teeth and greater resistance to breaking under the dynamic loads that occur when cutting hard wood.

72 links for an 18" bar

The number of links is directly tied to the length of the guide bar. A chain with 72 links fits 18-inch (approximately 45 cm) bars. Fitting a chain with the wrong number of links will make it impossible to tension the chain correctly and to operate the chainsaw.

Applications of the chainsaw chain

  • Cutting firewood — felling and trimming trunks and branches
  • Gardening work — pruning trees, removing limbs
  • Forestry work — cross-cutting, preparing timber for the sawmill
  • Construction work — cutting timber structural components
  • Green space maintenance — clearing windblown trees and thinning stands
  • Preparing firewood — cutting logs into billets
  • Minor carpentry work in the field

Checking compatibility

Before buying, check three key parameters: the chain pitch (0.325"), the width of the groove in the bar (0.05") and the number of links (72 for an 18" bar). This information can be found in the chainsaw manual, on the packaging of the chain currently in use or at the end of the guide bar. If any of these parameters does not match, the chain cannot be fitted or used safely.

Using and maintaining the chain

The chainsaw chain needs regular sharpening after every 2-3 hours of intensive work, or whenever a drop in cutting performance becomes noticeable. Sharpening is carried out with a 4.8 mm round file for a 0.325" pitch, maintaining a 30-degree sharpening angle. All teeth must be sharpened evenly to avoid uneven wear and chain runout.

Chain tension should be checked before every use — a correctly tensioned chain sits against the underside of the bar but can still be pulled around by hand. A chain that is too loose may come off the bar, while one that is too tight accelerates wear on the bar and bearings.

The automatic lubrication system requires regular topping up with chain oil. To check that lubrication is working, hold the running chainsaw close to a light-coloured surface — a correctly working system leaves a film of oil. Insufficient lubrication causes the chain and bar to overheat.

Signs of chain wear

The chain should be replaced when: the length of the cutting tooth has been reduced by half compared with a new one, there are cracks or damaged links, the chain needs frequent re-tensioning despite correct tension, or cutting requires pressure to be applied to the saw. Using a worn chain reduces working efficiency and increases the risk of breakage.
