A tool designed for fitting and removing internal retaining rings (circlips). Fitted with machined working tips that spread the ring when the handles are squeezed, enabling retainers to be fitted and removed precisely in bores.
Precisely finished tips ensure a secure grip in the ring's holes. Machining guarantees a uniform diameter and minimises the risk of slipping during work under load, protecting both the ring and the mounting groove.
The chrome-vanadium alloy increases hardness and wear resistance compared with carbon steel. The material retains its spring properties even after repeated use, preventing permanent deformation of the pliers.
The nickel layer forms a protective barrier against corrosion in a workshop environment. Polishing makes it easier to remove oil contamination and reduces friction during use, extending the tool's service life.
The PVC material provides thermal insulation and a non-slip grip. It absorbs vibration during use, reducing hand fatigue during longer assembly sessions.

Internal circlip pliers (such as model YT-2146) spread apart when the handles are squeezed – they are used for rings fitted in bores. External circlip pliers work the other way round (they close) and are intended for rings on shafts. Before buying, check the type of ring: an internal ring has its holes on the inside, an external one on the outside.
The straight version (such as YT-2146) has tips aligned in the same plane as the handles – it allows work in easily accessible places. Bent circlip pliers have tips at 45° or 90°, which makes it possible to fit rings in recesses and hard-to-reach spaces. The 200 mm length is a compromise between leverage and the ability to work in confined spaces.
Before starting work, check that the diameter of the tips matches the holes in the ring – tips that are too thick can damage the ring or the groove. When fitting, insert the tips into the holes in the ring, squeeze the handles to expand the ring, then place it in the mounting groove. When the handles are released, the ring snaps into the groove.
After finishing work, clean oil and contamination from the pliers, check the condition of the tips for wear and store in a dry place. The nickel-plated layer can be periodically maintained with light machine oil. Do not use the pliers as a lever or for tasks beyond their intended purpose – this may cause permanent deformation of the spring mechanism.
