Features of the 70 mm coil nails

Coil format for pneumatic nail guns

Nails joined into a coil strip allow automatic feeding in pneumatic nail guns. This system removes the need to load nails individually, speeding up work by as much as ten times compared with a traditional hammer.

70 mm length for materials 40-50 mm thick

A nail length of 70 mm provides sufficient penetration depth for most roofing and structural applications. With a material thickness of 40-50 mm, the nail passes through the components being joined with adequate anchorage in the base material.

2.5 mm diameter – a balance of strength and minimal damage

The 2.5 mm shank diameter is a compromise between the load-bearing capacity of the joint and minimising the risk of the timber splitting. This thickness is sufficient to carry loads in typical construction applications without causing excessive splitting of the wood fibres.

3,000-piece pack for continuous working

A set of 3,000 nails is enough to cover a roof area of approximately 80-100 m² (at the standard 15 cm spacing) or to build timber structures with a total joint length of over 200 linear metres. This eliminates frequent stoppages to replenish the material.

Applications of the 70 mm coil nails

  • Fixing bituminous roofing felt to roof decking on flat and pitched roofs
  • Installing bituminous shingles on roof structures with a pitch of up to 45°
  • Jointing roof frame components – rafters, purlins, structural posts
  • Fitting timber cladding and façades to load-bearing battens
  • Fixing OSB and plywood boards to timber frames in timber-frame construction
  • Installing skirting boards and finishing trims 15-20 mm thick
  • Fitting wall and ceiling panels to timber structures
  • Building pallets, transport crates and packaging structures

Nail gun compatibility

Check that the nails are compatible with your tool before purchase. VOREL 71994 coil nails work with YT-09213 and YT-09214 pneumatic nail guns. Other nail gun models may require nails with a different strip collation system or magazine specification.

Use and maintenance

Coil nails should be stored in dry rooms with a relative humidity below 60% to prevent surface corrosion. The coils should be protected from mechanical damage that could disrupt automatic feeding in the nail gun.

Before starting work, check the condition of the strip holding the nails together – damage can cause jamming in the feed mechanism. The compressor working pressure should be set in line with the nail gun manufacturer's recommendations, typically 6-8 bar for 70 mm nails.

When driving nails into hard timber, pre-drilling pilot holes of 1.5-2 mm is recommended, as this reduces the risk of the material splitting. When working at sub-zero temperatures, allow for the increased brittleness of the timber and adjust the driving pressure accordingly.
