Professional compression tester for diagnosing petrol engines. The kit comprises a dual-scale gauge and a set of four brass threaded adapters, allowing measurements to be taken on most passenger cars and vans.
The gauge is fitted with a 0-300 psi scale and a 0-2 MPa scale, so pressure can be read in the units used in the technical documentation of different manufacturers. The range up to 2 MPa (20 bar) covers typical compression values in petrol engines (8-13 bar).
The kit includes four threaded adapters: M10×1.0, M12×1.25, M14×1.25 and M18×1.5. Brass provides corrosion resistance and makes the adapters easy to screw in. The adapters fit the spark plug holes of most European, Asian and American vehicles.
The length of the hose allows the gauge to be moved freely during measurement, which makes work easier on engines with hard-to-reach spark plug holes. The rubber tip protects the thread from damage and ensures the joint is leak-tight.
Two extensions (straight and angled) provide access to the cylinders in engines with a complex engine bay layout. The angled extension is particularly useful on V6 and V8 engines and where fitting space is limited.

Before testing, warm the engine up to operating temperature (80-90°C), remove all the spark plugs and disconnect the injectors or ignition coils. During the test the throttle should be fully open and the battery fully charged, so that the starter motor turns the crankshaft at a steady speed.
Correct compression pressure in a petrol engine is usually 10-13 bar (145-190 psi), depending on the design. Differences between cylinders should not exceed 10%. A pressure below 8 bar, or differences above 15%, indicate worn rings, valves or a faulty head gasket.
Spark plug thread size depends on the engine model. Most modern petrol engines use an M14×1.25 thread (the most common standard) or M12×1.25 (older designs, Japanese engines). The M10×1.0 thread is found in small motorcycle and scooter engines, while M18×1.5 is used in older American engines and some V8 units.
Before starting the test, it is worth checking the vehicle's technical documentation or measuring the thread of the spark plug you have removed. Fitting the wrong adapter can damage the thread in the cylinder head, which requires costly repair.
