YATO YT-1939 300mm Corner Notching Shears

Specialist sheet metal shears designed for the precise notching of right-angled corners. The tool is used in roofing and sheet metal work, enabling flashings and sheet metal joints to be formed at 90 degrees quickly.

Shears length300 mm
Cutting angle90°
Cutting width0-43 mm
Blade materialFCD 40 steel

Features of the corner notching shears

Specialist blade geometry

The design, engineered for right-angled cutting, allows corners to be notched precisely without the need for additional adjustment. It speeds up the making of sheet metal joints that require an exact 90-degree angle.

FCD 40 steel

Spheroidal graphite cast iron (ferritic cast ductile iron) with a strength of 400 MPa combines hardness with resistance to cracking. The material ensures blade durability under intensive use on construction sites.

Cutting range 0-43 mm

The adjustable cutting width range allows the depth of cut to be matched to the sheet thickness and the requirements of the joint. This parameter defines the maximum width of material removed when forming a corner.

Working length 300 mm

The length of the shears provides sufficient leverage for cutting sheet metal of the standard thicknesses used in roofing. The length of the handles affects the cutting force and the precision with which the tool is guided.

Applications of the corner notching shears

  • Notching corners in roof flashings where surfaces meet at right angles
  • Forming joints in trapezoidal and flat sheet metal within roofing systems
  • Preparing corners in sheet metal flashings for chimneys and roof access hatches
  • Cutting corners in guttering and components of rainwater drainage systems
  • Making joints in facade cladding sheets and building cladding
  • Trimming corners in external and internal window cills
  • Forming angles and closing profiles in sheet metal structures
  • Preparing material for riveting and welding in sheet metal workshops

Corner notching technique

When notching a corner, the shears are positioned perpendicular to the edge of the sheet and the depth of cut is adjusted to the required joint width. The 90-degree angle is maintained automatically by the blade geometry. Material thicker than 0.8 mm may require cutting in two stages.

Maintenance and use

The shear blades require periodic cleaning of metal swarf and protection against corrosion. The pivots should be lubricated every 20-30 hours of operation. Avoid cutting materials harder than structural steel - this can chip the blades. Store the shears in a dry place, protected against impact damage.

Before starting work, check the play in the pivot - excessive play reduces cutting precision. If the blades become blunt, professional reconditioning is recommended, preserving the original sharpening angle. Do not use the shears as a lever or for cutting steel wire.
