Professional crocodile clip designed for jump leads. The steel and copper construction ensures safe current transfer of up to 500A when jump starting vehicles.
The maximum current that can flow through the clip without causing damage. A rating of 500A allows engines of up to approximately 3,000 cm³ (petrol) or 2,000 cm³ (diesel) to be started. A higher rating means less voltage drop during starting and faster starting of the vehicle.
Copper has an electrical conductivity of 58 MS/m, which minimises resistance and energy loss as current flows. In practice, this means the clip heats up less and energy is transferred more effectively from the donor battery to the discharged battery.
The steel construction provides mechanical strength and resistance to deformation during repeated use. The black insulation on the handle indicates the negative terminal in line with the standard colour coding and protects against electric shock when working with a live battery.
The 210 mm length provides sufficient jaw spacing for fitting to car battery terminals (typically 17-19 mm in diameter). The 130 mm opening width allows the clip to be attached to various types of terminal, including those with plastic covers.

The black NEGATIVE clip is connected to the negative (-) terminal of the battery. When jump starting a vehicle: first connect the red POSITIVE clip to the positive terminal of the discharged battery, then to the donor battery. Only then connect the black NEGATIVE clip to the earth of the donor vehicle (a metal engine component), and the other end to the earth of the vehicle being started.
Before every use, check the condition of the clip jaws – they should be clean and free from oxidation. The copper contact inserts can be cleaned with fine-grit sandpaper. Check that the handle insulation is intact – cracks can lead to electric shock. After use in winter conditions, dry the clips to prevent corrosion.
The clip is designed for short-term loading during starting (typically 3-5 seconds). Do not use for continuous current carrying or for charging batteries. Operating temperature: from -30°C to +50°C. At temperatures below -20°C the metal becomes more brittle – avoid impacts and excessive pressure.
