Cross-Tip Concrete Drill Bit 18 x 460 mm SDS Plus X-Tip YT-4223 YATO

SDS Plus cross-tip drill bit with an X-Tip head, designed for drilling into reinforced concrete, calcium silicate and clay brick. Manufactured from 40Cr steel with a YG-11C tungsten carbide tip and fitted with a twin flute for debris clearance.

Diameter x length18 x 460 mm
Shank typeSDS Plus
Body material40Cr steel
TipX-Tip YG-11C

Technical characteristics of the concrete drill bit

40Cr steel body

Chromium 40Cr steel is characterised by low thermal expansion, which prevents the bit from seizing in the chuck during intensive use. This material maintains dimensional stability even at the high temperatures generated when drilling reinforced concrete.

X-Tip head in YG-11C carbide

YG-11C tungsten carbide is an alloy with a hardness of 89-91 HRA, resistant to abrasion and mechanical impact. The cross-shaped X-Tip head distributes drilling forces across four cutting edges, which increases durability and drilling precision. The tip withstands contact with reinforcing bars without damage.

Twin flute for debris clearance

The twin-flute system with opposing helix angles ensures effective removal of debris from the drilled hole. This design reduces the risk of the bit jamming and speeds up drilling by continuously clearing concrete dust and fragments from the working area.

SDS Plus shank

The SDS Plus (Steck-Dreh-Sitz) system allows rapid tool changes without the use of keys. Four guide grooves and two locking grooves provide a secure fit and transmit torque and impact force from the rotary hammer to the bit.

Applications of the SDS Plus cross-tip drill bit

  • Drilling into structural and reinforced concrete during installation work
  • Drilling fixing holes in concrete walls and ceilings
  • Drilling into calcium silicate and aerated concrete blocks
  • Work in solid and perforated clay brick
  • Installing mechanical fixing systems in concrete structures
  • Drilling holes for chemical and mechanical anchors
  • Renovation and construction work requiring precision holes
  • Installation of electrical and plumbing services in mineral materials

Compatibility with tools

The SDS Plus drill bit works with rotary hammers fitted with an SDS Plus chuck. It is not compatible with impact drills with a keyless chuck or with SDS Max demolition hammers. Before purchase, check the chuck type on your power tool.

Use and maintenance

Before starting to drill, make sure the bit is correctly seated in the SDS Plus chuck – inserting the bit shank should produce an audible click of the locking mechanism. When working, it is advisable to use hammer drilling mode, which increases efficiency in concrete and other mineral materials.

The shot-blasted surface finish on the body increases corrosion resistance, but after finishing work it is worth cleaning the bit of concrete dust and protecting it from moisture. Regularly checking the condition of the tip allows early detection of wear and helps maintain drilling precision.

Rotational speed and feed force

For an 18 mm diameter bit, the recommended rotational speed is 600-800 rpm at a blow rate of 4,000-5,000 bpm. Excessive feed force can lead to overheating of the tip, while too little reduces drilling efficiency. Optimum results are achieved with moderate, even pressure.
