A diamond polishing pad designed for the wet working of ceramic and stone materials. The hook-and-loop attachment system allows the pad to be changed quickly during a multi-stage polishing process.
Technical features
GR100 grit
Grit 100 is the initial surface smoothing stage after cutting or coarse grinding. It removes the deeper scratches left by lower-grit pads (GR50), preparing the surface for further polishing.
Wet operation
Mandatory water cooling prevents the pad and the material from overheating, extends the life of the diamond abrasive and eliminates dust. The water carries away heat and slurry, ensuring even grinding.
Hook-and-loop attachment
The universal hook-and-loop (Velcro) attachment system works with backing pads for angle grinders. It allows pads to be swapped instantly when moving between successive polishing stages, with no tools required.
Diamond abrasive
Synthetic diamond crystals set in a resin matrix provide durability when working hard stone materials. As the hardest abrasive material, diamond guarantees effective grinding of porcelain stoneware and granite.

The multi-stage polishing process
Grit sequence
Professional polishing requires progressing gradually through successive grits: GR50 (removing cut marks) → GR100 (levelling) → GR200 (smoothing) → GR400 (pre-polishing) → GR800 (polishing) → GR1500 (high gloss) → GR3000 (mirror finish). Skipping stages results in visible scratches and an uneven gloss.
Grits available in the GEKO range
The manufacturer's range includes pads in the following grits: 50, 100, 200, 400, 800, 1500, 3000. A complete set of all grits makes it possible to carry out the full process from coarse grinding to mirror polishing.
Equipment requirements
The pad requires an angle grinder fitted with:
- Variable speed – stone materials require lower speeds (2000-4000 rpm) than metal
- A Ø125mm hook-and-loop backing pad – the hook-and-loop equivalent for mounting flexible pads
- The ability to work with water cooling – a water feed to the grinding zone
Speed control
Excessively high speeds when grinding porcelain stoneware cause the surface to overheat, the glaze to crack and the diamond abrasive to wear prematurely. The recommended speed for Ø125mm is 2500-3500 rpm, depending on the hardness of the material.
Use and maintenance
Before starting work, check that the pad is secure on the backing pad – the hook-and-loop surfaces must be clean and dry during fitting. While working, maintain a constant water supply to the grinding zone, avoiding any interruption in cooling.
Move the grinder with an even motion and without excessive pressure – the weight of the tool is sufficient for effective working. When finished, rinse the pad with clean water to remove any remaining slurry. Store in a dry place, protecting the working surface from mechanical damage.
Signs of pad wear
Replace the pad when: you notice a significant increase in working time, the surface is no longer ground evenly (patches appear), or the diamond abrasive has been worn down to the level of the backing matrix. A worn pad may scratch the material instead of smoothing it.
