The KD5673 is a portable diagnostic device designed to assess the condition of lead-acid batteries (including AGM and gel types) rated 12V or 24V with a capacity of 3 to 200Ah. The tester measures voltage, internal resistance and simulated cranking current, displaying the results on an LED screen without the need to drain the battery.
Key features
Internal resistance measurement
A battery's internal resistance rises as it ages and its plates become sulphated. Measuring this parameter makes it possible to assess the true condition of the cells without a lengthy load test — high resistance means the battery needs replacing even when the resting voltage appears correct.
Cranking current (CCA) analysis
The tester estimates the battery's ability to deliver the cranking current required to start an engine. The result is compared with the battery's rated CCA value, making it possible to judge whether the battery still performs adequately at low temperatures.
Voltage and state-of-charge detection
The device measures resting voltage and uses it to estimate the battery's state of charge. A reading below 12.4V on a 12V battery suggests it is not fully charged, while a reading below 11.8V indicates deep discharge that can permanently damage the cells.
Electrical protection
Built-in reverse polarity protection prevents damage to the tester if the clamps are connected the wrong way round. Overvoltage protection guards the measuring circuit against momentary voltage spikes in the vehicle's electrical system.
How to interpret the test results
Before testing, the battery should be left to rest for at least 30 minutes after its last charge or engine start. Testing immediately after charging can inflate the voltage reading by 0.2–0.5V, which distorts the assessment of state of charge. An internal resistance below 10 mΩ for a typical 60Ah/12V battery indicates that the cells are in good condition.

Battery type compatibility
The KD5673 tester is designed for lead-acid batteries: standard (flooded), maintenance-free (MF), AGM (absorbed glass mat) and gel (GEL). It is not suitable for testing lithium-ion batteries (LiFePO4, Li-ion) used in electric and hybrid vehicles, which require a different method of assessing condition.
How to use
The tester is connected by attaching its clamps directly to the battery terminals — the red clamp to the positive (+) terminal and the black clamp to the negative (−) terminal. The device is powered directly from the battery being tested and needs no external power supply or batteries. Testing takes a few seconds, with results shown live on the LED display. The tester does not load the battery in a way that would drain it — the measurement method is based on impedance analysis rather than a current draw test.
