Mechanical tool for clearing drain pipes, made from galvanised spring steel wire. Designed for removing blockages in waste systems of 40 mm diameter and above.
Technical features of the drain auger
1.5-metre working length
The reach allows blockages up to 1.5 m from the entry point to be cleared. Sufficient for most domestic installations, including runs from washbasins, kitchen sinks and baths to the soil stack.
5 mm wire diameter
The wire thickness provides sufficient rigidity to punch through blockages while retaining the flexibility needed to manoeuvre inside pipes. The 5 mm diameter is suited to pipes of 40 mm and above, typical of internal installations.
Spring construction with a sharp tip
The spring wire allows the auger to be rotated during use, which increases the effectiveness of mechanically breaking up the blockage. The sharp tip punches through organic and inorganic build-ups, allowing them to be broken down or pulled out.
Galvanised surface
The zinc coating protects the wire against corrosion on contact with water and the chemicals present in a drainage system. It extends the service life of the tool under regular use in a damp environment.

Use and maintenance
How to use the drain auger
The auger is fed into the pipe after removing the trap, or directly through the drain cover. While working, turn the handle clockwise while gently pushing the auger towards the blockage. The rotating motion causes the spring wire to screw into the build-up and break it up mechanically. Once the blockage has been cleared, withdraw the auger while turning it anticlockwise.
Cleaning after use
After each use, rinse the auger with warm water and detergent to remove organic residue and deposits. Drying the tool with a cloth before putting it away is advisable, as this prevents moisture from accumulating. Periodic lubrication of the handle and rotating parts extends the working life of the tool.
Pipe compatibility
The 5 mm auger is designed for pipes with an internal diameter of 40 mm and above. With smaller diameters there is a risk of the auger becoming stuck, while in larger bores (over 100 mm) effectiveness may be limited because the wire is not rigid enough relative to the working space.
