A flat engineer's square made from C45 carbon steel for precise measurement and marking out of right angles in metalworking, joinery and construction workshops. The tool complies with DIN 875/II and features a ground and polished surface.
A material with increased mechanical strength and resistance to deformation. C45 steel contains approximately 0.45% carbon, which ensures the dimensional stability of the tool over many years of workshop use.
Accuracy class II according to DIN 875 specifies the permissible angular error for workshop use. The standard sets out the requirements for squareness, flatness and the finish of the square's working surfaces.
Grinding and polishing the surface removes unevenness, makes it easier to clean off contamination and prevents corrosion. The smooth surface minimises the risk of scratching workpieces.
The flat shape ensures a stable fit against the surfaces of the components being checked and makes it easy to mark out straight lines. It also allows the squareness of edges to be checked in confined working spaces.

The squareness of the arms can be verified using the reversal method: place the square against the edge of a reference plate, draw a line, then turn it through 180° and place it against the edge again. If the lines coincide, the square is accurate. Any deviation indicates an angular error.
After use, clean the working surfaces of contamination and protect them with a thin layer of protective oil. Store in a dry place and avoid contact with corrosive substances. Check the condition of the working edges regularly for mechanical damage.
