A specialist tool designed for fitting and removing Seeger-type retaining rings from external grooves. The bent jaw design allows work in confined spaces where standard straight pliers cannot be used.

Bent jaw design
The angled bend of the working tips allows work in recesses, cavities and spaces where the circlip axis sits below the level of the surrounding components. A solution used when servicing mechanisms in deep housing recesses.
50CrV chrome vanadium steel
An alloy containing 0.5% chromium and vanadium offers increased surface hardness and wear resistance. The material retains its elasticity under repeated loads, which prevents permanent deformation of the jaws during use.
Precision-machined tips
Machining ensures dimensional accuracy of the tips and a smooth contact surface with the holes in the circlip. This minimises play in the joint and the risk of the tool slipping when expanding or compressing the circlip.
Nickel-plated finish

Difference between external and internal circlips
External circlips are fitted in grooves on the outer surface of a shaft and secure components against axial movement on the shaft. Internal circlips are fitted in grooves inside bores and secure components in housings. Each type requires dedicated pliers – external circlips expand, internal circlips compress.
Use and maintenance
Before starting work, check that the circlip diameter falls within the working range of the pliers. The tool tips are inserted into the holes in the circlip, then the handles are squeezed, which expands the circlip and allows it to be removed from the shaft or fitted into the groove.
After use, clean the pliers of any residual grease and dirt. The nickel-plated surface can be wiped with white spirit or a degreaser. Storing in a dry place prevents contact corrosion. It is worth checking the play in the jaw joint periodically – excessive play indicates wear in the pivot and means the tool should be replaced.
How to check compatibility with a circlip
Circlips have standardised hole diameters for the pliers' tips. Before buying the tool, verify the diameter of the shaft on which the circlip sits, and check the pliers' technical documentation for the range of circlip diameters they can handle.
