A pressure regulator with filter and gauge is a basic element of air preparation in pneumatic systems. The unit combines three functions: reducing pressure to working values, filtering out contaminants and displaying operating parameters.
The reducing mechanism steps the pressure down from the supply source (compressor, system) to the level required by the air tools. Adjustment is made with a knob, while the internal diaphragm maintains a constant outlet pressure regardless of fluctuations at the inlet.
The built-in filter traps solid particles (dust, rust from the pipework), droplets of water condensing in the lines and oil aerosols. Cleaning the air before it reaches the tools prevents wear of internal mechanisms and valve failure.
The gauge allows ongoing monitoring of operating parameters and precise setting of the outlet value. The clear scale makes it easy to match the pressure to the requirements of a specific tool without trial and error.
The 1/4" BSP (British Standard Pipe) thread is the standard size in small and medium-duty pneumatic systems. It ensures compatibility with most quick-release couplings, hoses and tools used in workshops.

The regulator is fitted directly after the compressor or at air take-off points. The direction of flow is marked with an arrow on the body. Before fitting, blow through the system to remove contaminants from the lines.
The pressure is set with the air flowing, by turning the adjusting knob and watching the gauge reading. Most air tools require 6-8 bar, although some equipment (e.g. spray guns) may need lower values of 2-4 bar.
The filter bowl needs to be drained of condensate periodically. Water collects in the lower part of the transparent bowl and should be removed using the drain screw. The filter element should be replaced once it is visibly contaminated or in line with the manufacturer's recommendations.
After installation and during use, the threaded connections should be checked for leaks. Leaks show up as a characteristic hissing sound and a drop in pressure on the gauge. Sealing requires PTFE tape or a thread sealant.
