A 40 mm castor with a polypropylene wheel and ball bearings. Fixed design with no swivel around the vertical axis, intended for fitting to furniture, transport crates and light trolleys.
Polypropylene runs quietly on smooth surfaces and resists moisture and most chemicals. The material leaves no marks on floors and has a low coefficient of friction.
Ball bearings reduce rolling resistance and make movement smoother. They give the castor a longer service life than plain bearings, particularly with frequent use.
A fixed castor moves in one direction only, with no swivel around the vertical axis. It is used alongside swivel castors to keep travel in a stable direction.
The 40 mm diameter allows fitting to furniture with low ground clearance and to small transport structures where mounting space is limited.

A typical set-up uses two fixed castors at the back of the structure and two swivel castors at the front. This arrangement makes the unit easy to manoeuvre while keeping travel stable when moving in a straight line.
Polypropylene castors are intended for indoor use on smooth surfaces – tiles, panels and PVC flooring. They are not recommended for uneven concrete surfaces or outdoor use, where the material may wear faster.
Ball bearings need periodic cleaning to remove dust and fibres that can restrict movement. If rolling resistance increases, use silicone or PTFE grease – avoid petroleum-based greases, which can damage polypropylene.
Before fitting, check the castor's load capacity stated by the manufacturer and calculate the total load on all mounting points. Overloading deforms the wheel and damages the bearings.
