Carbon steel flat wood bit designed for drilling 24 mm diameter holes in timber and timber-based materials. Fitted with a hex shank for secure location in the drill chuck.
The hexagonal shank profile prevents the bit from turning in the chuck during use. It transmits torque more effectively than a standard round shank, giving greater drilling accuracy and safer operation.
A ground centre point on the tip of the bit allows drilling to start accurately without the tool slipping. It enables precise positioning of the hole in line with the mark on the material.
The wide, flat paddle-shaped blade allows large-diameter holes to be drilled quickly with relatively little effort. This design also clears chips from the hole efficiently during drilling.
The material provides suitable hardness at the cutting edges while keeping the shank flexible. Carbon steel offers good wear resistance when drilling softwood and hardwood.

The bit can be used with hand drills fitted with a keyless chuck, cordless drill drivers and pillar drills fitted with a chuck that accepts a hex shank. Before use, check that the tool chuck is compatible with the HEX shank and that the tool has enough power to drill 24 mm holes in the material concerned.
Before starting work, make sure the bit is correctly located in the chuck and shows no play. Drill at the appropriate speed – too high a speed can cause overheating and burning of the timber, while too low a speed makes effective drilling difficult.
Apply moderate pressure when drilling – excessive force can cause the bit to jam or the material to split, particularly as the bit breaks through the far side. When drilling through holes, it is worth placing a sacrificial board behind the workpiece to prevent breakout.
After use, clean the bit of chips and any contamination. The cutting edges can be lightly sharpened from time to time with a file, keeping the original sharpening angle. Storing the bit in a dry place prevents corrosion of the carbon steel.
