The flex-head ratcheting combination spanner combines the functionality of three tools in one — a classic open-end spanner, a ring spanner and a ratchet. The flexible joint in the ring end allows work at an angle, which is particularly useful in confined assembly spaces.
The ratchet mechanism allows nuts to be tightened and loosened without removing the spanner from the fastener. This eliminates the need to repeatedly reposition the tool, speeding up work by as much as 50% compared with a classic ring spanner.
The flexible joint allows the ratchet head to be angled relative to the handle, making it possible to work in areas with limited access — around engine blocks, gearboxes and suspension components. The joint compensates for an awkward approach angle without any loss of torque.
The other end of the spanner is a classic open end, used to hold counter-nuts, to work where a ratchet is not needed, and to loosen heavily tightened fasteners that require a longer lever arm.
The 15 mm spanner is one of the most commonly used sizes in automotive and general mechanical work. It fits standard M10 nuts, which are found in hydraulic installations, underbody components, engine ancillaries and steel structures.

The ratchet mechanism has a direction switch, usually located on the ring head. Before starting work, set the direction: clockwise to tighten, anticlockwise to loosen. The ratchet only drives in one direction — in the opposite direction it free-wheels, allowing the spanner to be returned without undoing the nut.
The joint requires periodic lubrication with lithium grease or penetrating oil, particularly after use in dusty or damp conditions. The play in the joint should be checked — excessive play can lead to loss of torque and damage to the ratchet mechanism.
Ratcheting spanners are not designed for tightening to maximum torque. A torque wrench should be used for final tightening to the manufacturer's specification. The ratchet is intended for initial tightening and for loosening fasteners.
The flex-head ratcheting combination spanner is a solution for mechanics and service technicians working where access to fasteners is limited. Combining the functions of three tools in one reduces the number of spanners needed in a set and speeds up work on repetitive assembly tasks.
