A woodworking clamp with a ratchet mechanism, made using steel forging technology. A tool designed for holding workpieces during machining, assembly and welding, which can also be used as a spreader.
Features of the ratchet clamp
Forged steel construction
The forging process increases the density of the material and its mechanical strength compared with castings or pressed components. This construction provides resistance to deformation under load and stability when clamping heavy workpieces.
Ratchet mechanism
The ratchet system allows the clamping force to be increased in steps and held without having to keep gripping the handle. The mechanism locks the jaws in the selected position, so you can work with both hands during assembly or gluing.
Profiled bar
A forged bar with a cross-section that provides resistance to twisting under load. The profile of the bar works with the ratchet mechanism, allowing the clamp to be converted into a spreader for pushing components apart.
500 mm capacity
The maximum distance between the jaws allows workpieces up to 50 cm wide to be clamped. The 120 mm throat depth determines how far from the edge the clamping point can be positioned, which matters when clamping the middle sections of workpieces.

Use and maintenance
Checking the clamping force
The ratchet mechanism works in steps — each click increases the force. The capacity of the workpiece being clamped must not be exceeded. With soft wood, excessive force can leave marks; with metal, it can deform thin components.
Maintaining the bar
The bar needs to be cleaned periodically of dust and swarf, which can interfere with the smooth movement of the jaw. Lightly lubricating the bar with machine oil prevents corrosion and reduces friction. The ratchet mechanism should be protected from contamination.
Using as a spreader
To convert the clamp into a spreader, turn the movable jaw around on the bar. In this configuration the ratchet mechanism works in the opposite direction, pushing components apart instead of clamping them together. A useful function when assembling frames or separating glued components.
