Double-ended tubular box spanner made from hot-forged tool steel. Designed for fitting and removing tube nuts, hydraulic fittings and plumbing components.
The forging process densifies the material structure and eliminates voids in the steel. This method increases the tool's mechanical strength by around 30% compared with cast spanners, resulting in greater resistance to cracking under high torsional loads.
The double-ended design removes the need for two separate tools. The 10 and 11 mm sizes match the standard diameters of tube nuts used in hydraulic and gas installations to DIN and ISO standards.
The heat-treated material reaches a hardness of 45-50 HRC, which prevents deformation of the working edges during use. Tool steel is also resistant to wear from frequent contact with metal surfaces.
Manufacturing tolerances to DIN 894 standards ensure a snug fit on nuts with no play. The precise dimensions prevent wear on the corners of fasteners and allow the full torque to be transmitted.

Tube nuts are measured across the external thread diameter. A spanner with a 10 mm opening fits nuts with an M10 thread, while an 11 mm opening fits an M11 thread. Before buying, it is worth checking the dimensions with a vernier calliper or checking the markings on the fasteners. On older types of installation, it is important to allow for the possibility of imperial threads.
A forged tubular box spanner needs regular maintenance to keep it working as intended. After each use, remove any dirt from the working surfaces with a wire brush or cloth. After contact with water or other working fluids, dry the tool and protect it with a thin film of protective oil.
When working, always match the spanner closely to the size of the nut – using a tool with the wrong opening size damages both the fastener and the working edges of the spanner. Apply torque evenly, avoiding jerks and sudden movements that could crack the material if the yield point is exceeded.
Storing the tool in a dry place, away from sources of moisture, prevents surface corrosion. Tools should be kept in dedicated organisers or compartmented tool boxes, which eliminates the risk of mechanical damage during transport.
