How the PDR method works
PDR (Paintless Dent Repair) is a non-invasive technique that requires neither filler nor painting. The induction device generates an electromagnetic field which heats the sheet metal locally at the dent. The raised temperature makes the metal more pliable and, through its own internal stresses and with the help of the tools, it returns to its original shape.
The repair process
Small dents often come out after a single pass of the induction head. For larger or deeper damage, the heating has to be repeated several times while using the punches to help push the panel out mechanically. It is important not to overheat any one spot — several shorter cycles are better than one long one.
Use and maintenance
Before starting work, make sure the paint at the dent is not cracked or flaking — the PDR method only works while the integrity of the paint finish is intact. The device requires access to a standard 230 V socket with a fuse of at least 10 A.
After finishing work, wait until the induction head has cooled down. Do not touch it immediately after switching the device off. The plastic punches should be stored in a dry place and protected from sharp edges that could damage them.
Limitations of the method
The PDR method will not work on dents with cracked paint, deep creases with sharp edges or damage on the edges of body panels. In such cases conventional body repair with painting is required.
