A padlock with a 38 mm cast iron body, designed for securing property in standard conditions. The construction combines a cast iron body with a steel shackle, providing basic protection against unauthorised access.
Cast iron is a traditional material for mid-range padlocks. It offers resistance to impact and attempts at mechanical damage while keeping the price affordable. Suitable for applications where there is no elevated risk of break-in.
A steel shackle offers greater resistance to cutting than brass alternatives. The diameter and thickness of the shackle have a direct bearing on how well the padlock withstands cutting tools.
A body width of 38 mm makes this padlock a compact option, suitable for securing smaller items. This dimension refers to the body width measured at its widest point.
The three keys supplied allow spare copies to be kept in a safe place. It is advisable to have copies cut before putting the padlock into use, as duplicating a padlock key can prove difficult.

38 mm padlocks work well in standard-risk applications. For securing valuable equipment or in areas with a higher risk of theft, consider larger padlocks (50–70 mm) with a hardened shackle. Check the shackle diameter against the hasp of the item being locked.
The cylinder mechanism requires periodic lubrication with a graphite powder or graphite spray. Avoid oil-based lubricants, which attract dirt and can cause the mechanism to jam, particularly at low temperatures.
In outdoor conditions, cast iron without additional corrosion protection may rust. It is worth checking the surface periodically and applying anti-corrosion treatments where necessary. Moisture entering the mechanism can make the key difficult to turn.
Before first use, open and close the padlock several times and check that the mechanism operates smoothly. The key should turn without excessive resistance, and the shackle should move in and out of the body without jamming.
