A guide tool designed for laying decking boards with concealed screw fixing. It maintains even gaps between boards and drills at a constant 50° angle, delivering consistent, tidy results without the need for constant measuring and readjustment.
The constant 50° angle drives the screw into the side of the board, so the screw head stays concealed beneath the deck surface. This eliminates protruding metal fixings that could catch on footwear or corrode through direct contact with water and dirt.
A clear scale with a sliding indicator lets you set the tool for boards from 90 to 150 mm wide without using a tape measure. It removes the errors that come with measuring by hand and speeds up setting each board when laying large areas.
The set includes 1 mm and 2 mm shims (2 of each). Used individually or combined, they create 3.5 mm, 4.5 mm or 5.5 mm gaps between boards. The right gap provides ventilation beneath the deck and limits timber movement as moisture levels change.
Made from hardened steel, the guides keep the drill precise even after repeated use. Stable guidance reduces the risk of the bit slipping and damaging the board, and ensures a consistent drilling angle throughout the tool's service life.
The quick-release mechanism lets you reposition the tool along the board without additional tools. This shortens fitting time as you lay successive boards and is particularly useful when working on large decking areas.
The large handle gives a secure grip even when wearing work gloves, reducing fatigue during prolonged use. A built-in bit holder means there is no need to put the screwdriver bit down — it stays with the tool throughout the job.

The recommended gap between boards depends on the timber species and its moisture content at the time of fitting. Kiln-dried timber (moisture content below 15%) needs a larger gap — 4.5–5.5 mm is recommended — because it absorbs moisture and expands once fitted. Wet or green timber is fitted with a smaller gap (3.5 mm), as it shrinks while drying. For composite boards, follow the material manufacturer's guidelines.
Before fitting, set the scale slider to the width of the boards being used and select the appropriate spacer shims, securing them with the mounting screws supplied. Place the tool over the edge of the board, tighten the clamp and drill the pilot hole through the hardened sleeve at 50°. Then drive the screw with the TORX-15 bit stored in the tool's holder.
After use, clean swarf and wood dust from the guides — accumulated dust can affect the accuracy of the drill guidance. Periodically lubricate the moving parts of the clamp with machine oil or tool grease, which prevents the quick-release mechanism from seizing. Store the tool in a dry place and protect the hardened guides from corrosion.
