A complete HSS high-speed steel drill bit set for drilling structural steels, non-ferrous metals and alloys. The bits have a straight shank and a two-stage 135° point grind.
A material characterised by its resistance to the high temperatures generated during drilling. It allows higher cutting speeds than standard carbon steel drill bits, which translates into greater drilling efficiency.
The 135° point angle provides better drill bit centring and reduces the axial force required to start drilling. The two-stage grind improves chip evacuation and reduces the risk of the bit seizing in the material.
The bits have a cylindrical shank that fits standard drill chucks (jaw chucks) used on hand-held and stationary drills. The maximum shank diameter depends on the capacity of the drill chuck.
The set is supplied in a durable metal case with diameter markings. It makes storage, transport and quick selection of the right drill bit size for a given application easy.

The rotational speed of the drill bit depends on the hardness of the material and the diameter of the bit. For structural steels, speeds of 20-30 m/min are recommended; for aluminium, 60-100 m/min. Smaller-diameter bits require higher speeds. Using a coolant (e.g. cutting oil) extends tool life.
Before starting to drill, secure the drill bit firmly in the drill chuck, making sure the shank is fully inserted. The workpiece should be securely clamped.
When working with an HSS drill bit, the use of a coolant is advisable, particularly when drilling larger-diameter holes or working in harder materials. Coolant reduces friction, dissipates heat and prevents burning of the cutting edges.
After use, clean the drill bits of chips and dirt, then protect them against corrosion with a thin layer of oil. Storing them in the original case prevents mechanical damage and keeps the tools organised.
HSS drill bits can be sharpened repeatedly using a grinder with an aluminium oxide wheel. When sharpening, maintain the original point angle (135°) and the symmetry of the cutting edges. Overheating the bit during sharpening can cause the HSS steel to lose its hardness.
