Twist drill bit with a 1/4" hex shank designed for drilling structural, stainless and rolled steels. Made from HSS 6542 high-speed steel with a 135° split point tip.
A high-speed steel alloy with 5% cobalt added increases hardness and resistance to temperatures up to 600°C. The drill bit keeps its cutting edges sharp even during intensive drilling in hard steels, which translates into a longer tool life and less frequent replacement.
Cross-grinding of the tip removes the need for centre punching before drilling. The drill bit self-centres on the material, which shortens working time and improves hole precision. The 135° angle is optimal for steels with a hardness above 800 MPa.
The standard 6.3 mm shank fits impact drivers, cordless drills and quick-change chucks. The hexagonal shape prevents the drill bit from rotating in the chuck under heavy loads, which is important when drilling hard steels.
Precise grinding of the surface and cutting edges ensures a diameter tolerance in line with DIN 338. The drill bit produces accurately sized holes, which matters when fitting fasteners and joining steel structures.

The HEX 1/4" shank works with cordless impact drivers, hammer drills and drill chuck adapters. Before fitting, check that the tool accepts 6.3 mm hex shanks. For drills with a keyless chuck, a HEX-SDS adapter or HEX drill chuck may be required.
When drilling hard steels, a speed of 800-1200 rpm is recommended for the 4.2 mm diameter. Lower speeds extend drill bit life and prevent the cutting edges from overheating. Using coolant (oil emulsion or cutting fluid) significantly improves drilling efficiency and reduces tool wear.
After each use, clean the drill bit of swarf and material residue. The cutting edges can be sharpened periodically with a drill bit sharpener, keeping the original 135° angle. Storing in a dry place protects the steel against corrosion and loss of sharpness.
Structural steel S235: speed 1200 rpm, feed 0.1 mm/rev. INOX 304 stainless steel: speed 800 rpm, feed 0.08 mm/rev, cooling essential. Cold-rolled steel: speed 1000 rpm, feed 0.1 mm/rev. Speeds that are too high scorch the edges and shorten the drill bit's life.
