HSS 6542 SDS Plus Metal Drill Bits YATO YT-40050 - set of 5

A set of five HSS 6542 high-speed steel twist drill bits for metal with SDS Plus shanks. The bits feature a cross-ground 135° split point tip, which ensures accurate centring without slipping on the workpiece surface.

Technical features of HSS 6542 drill bits

HSS 6542 high-speed steel

A steel alloy containing tungsten (6%), molybdenum (5%), chromium (4%) and vanadium (2%). The hardness of the material provides resistance to abrasion when drilling ferrous and non-ferrous metals. The cobalt content increases heat resistance, which allows the bits to be used at higher speeds without losing their cutting edge.

SDS Plus shank

A mounting system used in hammer drills and rotary hammers. The four grooves allow rapid tool changes without the need for a key. The shank transmits both torque and axial impact, which increases drilling efficiency in harder materials.

135° split point tip

Cross grinding removes the central section of the chisel edge, which reduces the feed force required to start drilling. The 135° angle prevents the bit from slipping on the metal surface and reduces the risk of damaging the material when spot drilling.

Complete range of diameters

The five most popular diameters (4, 5, 6, 8, 10 mm) cover the typical requirements of installation work, steel structures and workshop tasks. The set removes the need to buy individual drill bits for standard applications.

Applications of SDS Plus metal drill bits

  • Drilling assembly holes in steel and aluminium profiles
  • Spot drilling screws and rivets in metal structures
  • Drilling holes for anchors in steel components
  • Drilling in steel sheet, cast iron and non-ferrous metals
  • Installation work when fitting ventilation and air conditioning systems
  • Preparing holes in steel and aluminium pipes
  • Drilling in body panels and welded structures
  • Workshop and building renovation applications

Tool compatibility

Required tool

SDS Plus drill bits require a hammer drill or rotary hammer with an SDS Plus chuck. They are not compatible with standard drills fitted with a keyless or keyed chuck. Before purchase, check the chuck type on your tool. Most manufacturers mark compatible tools with the SDS Plus or SDS+ symbol.

Use and maintenance

Before starting work, check that the bit is correctly seated in the chuck - a distinctive click confirms that it is locked in place. Drilling in metal requires lower speeds than wood or plastics - the recommended setting is 500-1500 rpm, depending on the diameter and hardness of the material.

When drilling structural steels, the use of coolant or cutting oil is recommended, as this extends the life of the cutting edge and improves hole quality. Soft metals such as aluminium can be drilled dry, keeping the rotational speed moderate.

After use, clean the bits of swarf and protect them from moisture. Regular lubrication of the SDS Plus shank prevents corrosion and makes tool changes easier. Blunt bits can be sharpened with a drill bit sharpener, maintaining the original 135° point angle.

Work safety

Safety goggles and work gloves should be worn when drilling. The workpiece should be securely clamped. Do not overload the bit with excessive feed pressure - this can cause overheating or breakage of the tool. Store tools out of the reach of children. Use only bits that are in good condition and undamaged.
