A drill bit made from cobalt high-speed steel for precision drilling in metals, including stainless and alloy steel. It meets the DIN 338 standard, ensuring dimensional consistency and manufacturing quality.

HSS-Co cobalt high-speed steel
The addition of cobalt (usually 5–8%) increases hardness and heat resistance up to 600°C. This allows drilling into materials with a hardness of up to 900 N/mm², including stainless, acid-resistant and alloy steel, where standard HSS drill bits quickly lose their sharpness.
135-degree point angle
The reduced point angle (compared with the standard 118°) lowers the axial force required to start drilling and reduces the tendency of the drill bit to wander across the surface. This is particularly useful when drilling into rounded or sloped metal surfaces.
DIN 338 standard
A standard defining the geometry of a cylindrical drill bit: overall length, flute length and shank dimensions. It guarantees compatibility with drill chucks and consistency of parameters between manufacturers. DIN 338 drill bits have cylindrical shanks that fit keyless chucks.
5.2 mm diameter
A diameter typical for holes for M6 screws (drilling before tapping) and for blind rivets. It is commonly used in steel structures, sheet metal assembly and industrial electronics for mounting components in metal enclosures.

Tool compatibility
A drill bit with a cylindrical shank fits all standard drill chucks: keyless, keyed, and impact driver chucks with an adapter. The chuck's maximum capacity should be at least 10 mm for a secure hold.
Use and maintenance
When drilling stainless and alloy steel, low speeds are recommended (300–500 rpm for a 5.2 mm diameter) together with a steady feed and cooling with coolant emulsion or cutting oil. This prevents overheating of the cutting edges and premature blunting.
An HSS-Co drill bit can be sharpened repeatedly using a drill bit sharpener or a bench grinder. The original 135° point angle and the symmetry of the cutting edges must be maintained. After sharpening, it is worth checking the balance of the drill bit, particularly when working at higher speeds.
After use, the drill bit should be cleaned of swarf and protected against corrosion with a thin layer of machine oil. Storing it in compartmented cases prevents the cutting edges from being damaged through contact with other tools.
