A set of three hand taps made from high-speed steel (HSS), designed for cutting M2 and M7 metric threads in holes. Manufactured to the DIN 352 standard, these tools produce accurate internal threads in metals, plastics and other engineering materials.
Made from hardened high-speed steel, these taps offer high hardness and wear resistance. HSS retains its cutting properties even at elevated temperatures, which extends tool life during intensive tapping.
The DIN 352 standard defines the dimensions and tolerances of hand taps, ensuring compliance with metric standards. This guarantees consistent thread dimensions and compatibility with the corresponding M2 and M7 metric screws.
The 19 mm working section of the tap is the threaded portion that actually cuts the thread in the material. This length determines the maximum thread depth that can be cut in a through or blind hole.
The complete set contains taper, intermediate and bottoming taps for the M2 and M7 sizes. Cutting the thread progressively with three tools reduces the force required and improves the quality of the finished thread, particularly in harder materials.

Before tapping, drill a hole with a drill bit of the thread's core diameter. For M2 the hole diameter is 1.6 mm, for M7 it is 6.0 mm. The hole must be perpendicular to the surface and free from burrs. An incorrect hole diameter will damage the thread or break the tap.
Tapping is carried out progressively with three tools: taper (with the longest lead), intermediate and bottoming. The tap is turned by hand with a tap wrench, rotating half a turn clockwise and a quarter turn anticlockwise to break the swarf. A suitable lubricant should be used — machine oil for steel, paraffin for aluminium.
After use, clean the taps of swarf and material residue, dry them and protect them with a thin film of oil against corrosion. Storing them in dedicated holders or cases prevents damage to the cutting edges. Regular cleaning and protection from moisture significantly extend the service life of HSS tools.
