A 1.0 mm twist drill bit made from HSS high-speed steel, designed for precision drilling in metals. A VOREL product with a straight shank, compatible with standard drill chucks.
HSS (high-speed steel) retains its hardness at temperatures of up to 600°C, which allows drilling in structural and stainless steels as well as non-ferrous metals without the cutting edges losing their sharpness. The hardening process provides resistance to wear during intensive use.
The bit's small diameter allows mounting holes to be drilled in electronics, model making and work on delicate metal parts. At this diameter, steady control and the correct drill speed are crucial (3,000-5,000 rpm for metals).
The 11.8 mm working section of the bit determines the maximum drilling depth. This length is sufficient for drilling sheet metal, profiles and parts up to 10 mm thick, allowing for swarf clearance.
The cylindrical (straight) shank allows the bit to be mounted in keyless chucks and standard drill chucks with a capacity of 0.5-10 mm. The shank diameter matches the drill diameter, so the chuck has to be tightened precisely.

For a 1.0 mm bit in structural steel, the recommended speed is 3,000-4,000 rpm with a feed of 0.01-0.02 mm/rev. In aluminium, the speed can be increased to 5,000 rpm. Using emulsion or machine oil as a coolant extends the bit's service life and improves hole quality.
1.0 mm drill bits need to be centred precisely in the chuck. Before starting work, check the bit's radial runout (maximum 0.05 mm). With keyless chucks, tightening with the chuck key is recommended for a secure grip.
Small-diameter HSS drill bits should be stored in separate slots or protective tubes to avoid damaging the cutting edges. Re-sharpening a 1.0 mm bit requires specialist equipment - for typical use, replacing a worn bit with a new one is more economical.
