Twist drill bit made from HSS high-speed steel, designed for drilling holes in ferrous and non-ferrous metals. The 2 mm cutting diameter is well suited to precision assembly and repair work.
The HSS (High Speed Steel) designation refers to a steel alloy with added tungsten, molybdenum and chromium. This material retains its hardness even at temperatures of up to 600°C, allowing higher drilling speeds without blunting the cutting edges.
A 2 mm cutting diameter falls into the precision drill bit category. It is used when fitting electronic components, in precision engineering and in modelling work where an accurately sized hole is required.
The spiral flutes clear swarf from the hole as you drill, preventing it from jamming. This design reduces cutting resistance and lowers the risk of the drill bit snapping in the material.
The drill bit works in ferrous metals (structural steel, stainless steel) and non-ferrous metals (aluminium, brass, copper). The speed must be adjusted to suit the hardness of the material being drilled.

For structural steel the recommended speed is 2000-2500 rpm, and for aluminium 4000-5000 rpm. Drill with moderate feed pressure, using emulsion or cutting oil coolant on difficult-to-machine materials. Excessive speed or a lack of cooling will shorten the life of the cutting edge.
After use, clean the drill bit of swarf and material residue, then protect it from moisture. Storing it in a dedicated case or organiser protects the cutting edges from mechanical damage. A blunt drill bit can be resharpened using a drill bit sharpener, maintaining a 118° point angle.
