A set of five HSS 4241 high-speed steel drill bits, 1.5 mm in diameter, designed for drilling accurate holes in steels, cast iron and other metals. The DIN 338 grind and 135° split point ensure stable operation and dimensional accuracy.
A steel alloy containing tungsten, molybdenum and cobalt, characterised by high hardness and wear resistance. It keeps the cutting edges sharp even during intensive work with hard high-carbon and stainless steels, which translates into a longer drill bit service life.
The special point geometry removes the need for centre punching before drilling. The 135° angle keeps the drill bit tracking steadily from the moment it touches the material, reducing the risk of the tool slipping and shortening the working time, particularly when drilling a large number of holes.
Precise grinding of the working surfaces to the international DIN 338 standard guarantees repeatable drilled hole dimensions. This means the hole diameter matches the nominal drill bit diameter within the tolerance specified by that standard, which matters in work requiring assembly accuracy.
The design with an additional cutting edge increases the efficiency of material removal during drilling. This reduces the load on the main edges, minimises swarf sticking to the drill bit surface and improves heat dissipation, which is particularly important when drilling stainless steels that generate considerable friction.

1.5 mm HSS drill bits require the rotational speed to be matched to the material being drilled. For structural steels the recommended speed is around 2000-2500 rpm; for stainless steels it should be reduced to 1500-2000 rpm. Using a cutting fluid or cutting oil extends tool life and improves hole quality.
Insert the drill bit into the drill chuck to a depth of at least 15-20 mm of the shank, making sure all jaws are tightened evenly. Play in the chuck causes radial runout, which enlarges the hole and accelerates wear on the cutting edges.
Blunt HSS drill bits can be reconditioned by sharpening on a drill bit grinder while maintaining the original point geometry and the 135° angle. Incorrect sharpening results in asymmetric cutting edges and axial runout. Drill bits 1.5 mm in diameter require precise sharpening because of their small size.
When working with drill bits, wear safety goggles and work gloves, and clamp the workpiece securely. An HSS drill bit reaches a high temperature during use, which creates a risk of burns.
