A drill bit made from HSS 4241 high-speed steel with a 135° split point, designed for drilling holes in steel, stainless steel and cast iron. The DIN 338 grind ensures accurate hole dimensions without the need for centre punching.
A steel alloy containing 4% chromium, 2% vanadium, 4% molybdenum and 1% tungsten. It delivers a hardness of 63-65 HRC after hardening, which translates into wear resistance and the ability to work at temperatures of up to 600°C without losing its cutting properties.
The special centre-point grind eliminates the need to centre punch the surface before drilling. The 135° angle provides better drill centring and reduces axial forces when starting the hole, which matters at diameters above 3 mm.
The standard cylindrical grind guarantees repeatable hole dimensions with H13 tolerance. The geometry of the cutting edges ensures stable operation at 1500-3000 rpm for a 4.2 mm diameter in structural steel.
Modifying the point geometry with an additional edge reduces friction forces in the cutting zone, which lowers heat build-up in the drill bit and extends its service life when drilling materials with a hardness of up to 900 N/mm².

For structural steel (S235): speed 2000-2500 rpm, feed 0.05-0.08 mm/rev. For stainless steel: 1500-2000 rpm with emulsion cooling. For cast iron: 2500-3000 rpm dry. Drilling holes deeper than 3 times the diameter requires periodically withdrawing the drill bit to clear the swarf.
HSS drill bits need sharpening once there is a noticeable increase in feed force or a deterioration in hole quality. Sharpen on a grinder with an aluminium oxide wheel, maintaining the original rake and relief angles. When working in stainless steel, use an oil-based or emulsion coolant, which can extend tool life by up to three times.
Store in a dry place, in cases or stands that protect the points from mechanical damage. Avoid contact with moisture, which causes surface corrosion and reduces cutting quality.
