Twist drill bit in HSS 4341 high-speed steel with a cylindrical reduced shank, coated with a layer of titanium nitride. Designed for drilling holes in metals, including hard-to-machine materials.
The gold and black ceramic layer increases the surface hardness of the bit and reduces friction. As a result, the bit heats up more slowly, stays sharp for longer and allows higher rotational speeds when drilling hard-to-machine materials.
The cylindrical shank is turned down to a smaller diameter than the working part of the bit. This allows a 20 mm bit to be fitted in drill chucks with a smaller clamping range (e.g. up to 13 mm), which is the standard on most hand drills.
The special 135° point grinding with a split point reduces the feed force needed to start drilling. The bit is self-centring and does not need to be centre-punched before drilling, which speeds up work and improves precision.
Precisely machined spiral flutes ensure efficient chip removal from the hole during drilling. This prevents the flutes from clogging, the bit from overheating and the hole quality from deteriorating.

For a 20 mm diameter bit the recommended rotational speeds are: soft steel 200-300 rpm, hard steel 100-150 rpm, aluminium 600-800 rpm. Lower speeds and a steady feed give longer tool life.
Although the TiN coating increases heat resistance, a coolant or cutting emulsion is recommended when drilling deep holes or during continuous operation. This prevents excessive heating and damage to the coating.
Before buying, check the clamping range of the drill chuck. The reduced shank has a smaller diameter than the working part, which allows it to be fitted in standard chucks up to 13 mm. Make sure the drill has enough power to drive a bit of this diameter.
