A twist drill bit with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating, designed for drilling stainless steel, structural steel and cold-rolled steel. Manufactured to DIN 338, it produces accurate holes in demanding materials without the need for a centre punch.
The gold-coloured TiN layer increases the surface hardness of the drill bit and reduces friction. Effective heat dissipation prevents the cutting edge from overheating when drilling hard metals, extending tool life by up to 300% compared with standard HSS drill bits.
The aggressive cutting edge geometry with a 135° point angle allows drilling to start directly on the surface of the material. This eliminates the need for centre punching beforehand, speeding up the work and improving the accuracy of hole positioning.
Manufacture to DIN 338 guarantees accurate dimensions and tolerances. The standard straight shank fits keyless and keyed chucks on hand drills, pillar drills and magnetic drills.
The high-speed steel (HSS) structure provides resistance to high pressure and torque. The drill bit withstands use with pillar drills and magnetic drills, where the feed forces are greater than with hand tools.

A 6.5 mm drill bit with a straight shank fits all standard drill chucks: keyless chucks with a range from 1–13 mm, as well as keyed chucks. Before starting work, make sure the chuck is clean and grips the drill bit shank correctly.
HSS-TiN drill bits offer increased wear resistance, but their service life depends on correct use. When drilling stainless steel, lower speeds (300–500 rpm for a 6.5 mm diameter) and greater pressure than for structural steel are recommended. The TiN coating dissipates heat effectively, but for intensive work a cooling lubricant can be used to further extend the life of the cutting edge.
After use, clean the drill bit of swarf and protect it from moisture. Although the TiN coating increases corrosion resistance, storing the bit in a dry place prevents oxidation of the shank. HSS-TiN drill bits should not be sharpened on standard sharpeners, as this can damage the coating – if the bit becomes blunt, professional sharpening that preserves the geometry is recommended.
For a 6.5 mm drill bit in structural steel: speed 800–1200 rpm, feed 0.1–0.15 mm/rev. For stainless steel: speed 300–500 rpm, feed 0.08–0.12 mm/rev. Lower speeds and greater pressure prevent work hardening of the stainless steel surface.
