An open-ended spanner with VDE insulation, designed for work on live electrical installations up to 1000 V AC. The tool complies with EN 60900, providing protection against electric shock when installing and servicing electrical components.
The multi-layer dielectric insulation protects against electric shock when working on electrical installations. The VDE mark confirms that the tool has passed dielectric strength tests and meets the requirements of EN 60900. Each individual tool is tested at 10 kV before being released for sale.
The CrV alloy is characterised by increased hardness and resistance to mechanical wear. The material retains its elastic properties even under heavy loads, which prevents deformation of the spanner head. CrV steel also offers higher corrosion resistance than standard tool steels.
The handle is made from two types of plastic, giving an ergonomic grip and anti-slip properties. The soft outer layer increases working comfort, while the hard core provides structural rigidity. VDE certification confirms the insulating properties of the handle.
The length of the spanner has been selected to provide adequate leverage while keeping the overall dimensions compact. This design makes it easier to work in confined spaces such as distribution boards and installation boxes, where access to components is restricted.

EN 60900 sets out the requirements for hand tools intended for work on live installations. Tools that comply with this standard undergo dielectric, mechanical and environmental testing. Every tool is tested at 10,000 V for a minimum of 3 minutes, which guarantees safety when working at up to 1000 V AC or 1500 V DC. VDE certification confirms that the manufacturer applies quality control at every stage of production.
The insulation must be checked before every use – it must show no cracks, scratches or missing material. Damaged insulation disqualifies the tool from live working. The spanner should be stored in a dry place, away from heat sources and chemicals that could damage the insulating layer.
The tool should be cleaned with a dry or slightly damp cloth. Organic solvents and abrasive agents, which can impair the dielectric properties of the insulation, must not be used. Once work is finished, the spanner should be wiped dry to prevent the build-up of dust and moisture.
VDE tools require periodic inspection of their technical condition, particularly under intensive use. Keeping inspection records is recommended, especially in industrial applications where health and safety regulations may require documented evidence that insulated tools are in working order.
