Choosing the right blade for the material
How to choose the TPI
For thin metals (up to 3 mm), use 24-36 TPI blades. For thicker materials (over 3 mm), 14-24 TPI blades are better - coarser teeth clear swarf more efficiently. A tooth pattern that is too fine for thick metal causes the blade to clog and overheat.
Checking compatibility
Before buying, verify the shank type on your jigsaw. This information is given in the operating manual or on the tool's packaging. Jigsaws with a U-shank take a clamp with a cut-out, into which the blade is inserted from below. The T-shank has a quick-release clamp with a hole.
Use and maintenance
When cutting metal, cool the blade with cutting fluid or machine oil, which extends blade life and improves cut quality. Set the jigsaw to a low or medium speed - cutting too fast causes overheating and rapid blunting of the teeth.
The blade needs replacing when the teeth are visibly blunt (shiny edge), resistance during cutting increases, or the cut edges become irregular. Do not apply excessive pressure to the jigsaw - the weight of the tool alone is enough for efficient cutting.
