Jump Leads 400A YT-83152 YATO
Jump leads for emergency starting of petrol and diesel engines in passenger cars and vans. This model has a stranded copper conductor and rubber insulation that keeps the leads flexible at low temperatures.
Features of the 400A jump leads
400 amp rated current
The maximum starting current the cables can safely carry. A 400A rating is sufficient to start most petrol engines up to 3.0 litres and diesels up to 2.5 litres in passenger cars and light vans.
Stranded copper conductor
Copper offers high electrical conductivity, minimising resistance and voltage loss when large starting currents flow. The stranded construction makes the leads flexible, which makes them easier to route and connect to the battery terminals.
Frost-resistant rubber insulation
The rubber sheathing remains flexible across a wide temperature range, including winter conditions below zero. This prevents the leads from stiffening in the cold, making them easier to unroll and connect, and protects them against mechanical damage during use.
2.5 metre working length
This is the distance between the clamps at either end of the leads. A length of 2.5 m allows the batteries of two vehicles parked side by side, or slightly offset as is typical during a jump start in a car park or garage, to be connected.

Use and maintenance of the jump leads
Safe connection procedure
Switch off the ignition in both vehicles before connecting the leads. Connection sequence: the red clamp to the positive (+) terminal of the flat battery, the second red clamp to the (+) terminal of the booster battery, the black clamp to the (-) terminal of the booster battery, and the second black clamp to an earth point on the vehicle with the flat battery, away from the battery. Disconnect in reverse order after starting.
Storage and maintenance
After use, clean any dirt and moisture from the leads, then coil them and place them in the supplied case. Store in a dry place, protected from direct sunlight and contact with sharp objects. Check the condition of the insulation and clamps regularly before the winter season.
Limitations of use
400A leads are intended for engines of a given capacity. Larger power units, lorries or construction machinery require leads with a higher rated current, typically 600A or more. Check the vehicle manufacturer's requirements before use.
